The New All Time Low

As All Time Low makes their grand appearance, I’m stuck in a daze. Right on the side of the stage I had a good view, of the back of their heads. But no matter, the band never ceased to amaze me. Their chords lavishly played and their vocals at a melodious high. Never forgetting the adoring fans at their side, they made countless little stops over to us. Playing, singing, and getting us all hyped.

Aside from the electrifying feel, I felt as though their set list had no flow and songs seemed to be crammed together, in a never ceasing blob. From songs on their new album, to songs on their old album, to the occasional acoustic, everything seemed jumbled up. Now, as a fan listening to their music, you don’t really care about the order of it. But as a critic, thinking back on the experience,  the order of the songs made absolutely no sense. Regardless, the concert was indeed much more than expected. Anyone who loves All Time Low should most definitely buy tickets to their concert. The name of the tour is “Gimme Summer Ya Love,” and if you haven’t already check it out. You won’t soon forget the madness that’s inflicted in just one night of music. All of that is worth it, and in my opinion I’m sure you all will think so too.

I have however noticed a transition in their sound. They’ve gone from a glorified “punky” sound, to this really inconsistent pop. Some of the songs on their new album, I must say I like including  the popular, “I Feel Like Dancin’.” But when I compare that to their earlier works like, “Coffee Shop Soundtrack,” I’m amazed at the difference. I like all types of music, but this isn’t an evolution of good means. This is breaking their true form to become musical icons. All Time Low had a sound, which was consistent with their genre and contemporaries, but still blew you out of the water. Now the group is leading us into the era of punk-pop. Which isn’t necessarily a harmful change, but the two genres clash, and that isn’t musical genius. The group ceases to be true to their roots in order to reach #1 status. In the end though, I cannot blame them. The music business is harsh to bands who cannot relate to artists like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, or even Nicki Minaj. But I digress; All Time Low still remains to be one of the most successful remaining “punk-pop” bands out there. Hopefully they will continue to unravel their skill, and please audiences of all types. I think we can expect a lot out of them in the future. They seem to be climbing the fan admiration chart. They’ve gained concrete admirers with the  album, “So Wrong, It’s Right,” my own personal favorite.  Fans expect a lot from All Time Low, and can you blame them?
